Amwell, a leading innovator in telehealth solutions, has announced the appointment of Cynthia Horner, M.D., FAAFP, as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and President of Amwell Medical Group (AMG). This strategic move underscores Amwell’s commitment to advancing digital healthcare delivery and enhancing patient access to top-notch care.

Dr. Horner brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role. As CMO, she will spearhead the clinical aspects of Amwell’s product strategy, ensuring the seamless implementation of digital health solutions across hospitals, health systems, and payers. Her leadership will be pivotal in driving Amwell’s growth and innovation in the telehealth domain.

In her capacity as President of AMG, Dr. Horner will lead a team comprising over 3,000 active providers (as of 2023), delivering a spectrum of virtual healthcare services including primary care, urgent care, behavioral health, and women’s healthcare. This adept group plays a crucial role in realizing Amwell’s mission of broadening access to convenient and comprehensive care options.

Dr. Horner’s journey with Amwell commenced in 2016 when she joined as a physician. Over the years, she has held various leadership roles within the organization, including medical director and head of general medicine and quality. Her unwavering dedication and significant contributions have culminated in her well-deserved promotion to CMO.

This announcement follows Amwell’s recent financial results for 2023, which revealed a net loss of $679.2 million. Despite these fiscal challenges, Amwell remains steadfast in its mission, implementing cost-saving measures such as a 10% reduction in headcount and operational streamlining.

With Dr. Horner’s visionary leadership, Amwell is poised to navigate the dynamic telehealth landscape and retain its position as a trailblazer in making healthcare more accessible and convenient for all. Her expertise further solidifies Amwell’s standing as a frontrunner in the digital healthcare arena, paving the way for continued success and innovation.
